BRONTE, SYDNEY

A brilliant light show unfolds on a chilly Winter's dawn as hardy enthusiasts arrive for their morning swim at Bronte Pool. Officially known as the Bond Ocean Pool named after Major Bond, this iconic pool was built in the late 1800s when sea bathing became fashionable and legal. Sydney's first surf life saving club was formed here in 1903. Major Bond was known for being prominent in his involvement with initiation of the life saving clubs in the area and taught swimming at this pool until the 1950s.
