LAKE TEKAPO, SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND

Wild lupins flourish in summer along the shores of Lake Tekapo. Legend has it that lupins were first introduced to this part of New Zealand by an early European settler, a farming woman who wanted to bring some life and colour to an otherwise seemingly arid place. So she dispersed some lupin seed by hand around her property. Over the years, this voracious plant has spread along roadsides and rivers to now cover much of the southern part of New Zealand.
