LAKE TEKAPO, SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND

The afternoon sun renders Lake Tekapo a brilliant turquoise against a foreground of wild lupins. Bitterly cold, arid and lifeless through winter, Tekapo is usually nothing more than a brief resting place on the long road between Christchurch and Queenstown. However as the summer warmth arrives, the lake is transformed into a floral extravaganza brimming with life and colour, attracting many visitors.
